As an innovative alternative to smoking, there are still a number of common misconceptions about heated tobacco. If you’re an existing smoker who is new to it, or just curious and want to learn more, we’ve outlined some common myths, and explained what is and isn’t true.

Myth #1: Heated tobacco is the same as vaping

This is not true. Heated tobacco devices like Ploom X Advanced use real tobacco, whereas vapes and e-cigarettes use e-liquid which may contain nicotine and flavourings. Heated tobacco is a much closer alternative to cigarettes compared to vapes, due to the tobacco content.

Myth #2: Heated tobacco doesn’t contain real tobacco.

Again, this is false. Heated tobacco sticks, like Ploom’s EVO tobacco sticks, use real tobacco leaves. For EVO, the tobacco is carefully selected to the highest quality. It features two cuts of tobacco: micro ground and fine cut and uses OptiCut to maximise surface area and release more flavour.

Myth #3: Heated tobacco produces smoke.

Heated tobacco does not produce any smoke or smoke smell. This is because the tobacco leaves are heated to a high temperature, rather than burned, which instead releases an authentic tobacco vapour.

Myth #4: Heated tobacco is risk-free

We believe our Ploom X Advanced Device has strong potential to be a reduced-risk product compared to smoking cigarettes. It has a 90-95% reduction on average in the levels of 9 constituents recommended by the World Health Organisation (WHO) for reduction in cigarette smoke*. Despite this, heated tobacco is not risk free and no tobacco product is safe. Ploom X Advanced does not eliminate health or addiction risks associated with tobacco use.
